Between Unbeing and Being
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Ut bibendum tortor sit amet ligula rutrum, at porta tortor convallis ...
This self-portrait uses light reactive, interference paints to help illustrate an uncanny tension that troubles a beautiful, fresh airy day. I have painted the idiom waiting for the other shoe to drop to speak to an issue common to those who experience complex post-traumatic stress disorder. Waiting for the other shoe to drop is an overwhelming feeling of alarm that something is about to go wrong. For people with Complex PTSD, this occurs most commonly when life is stable and going well. The hyper-vigilance that drives this sensation is both a mechanism for self-preservation and a hindrance to purposeful and happy living. It is not a choice, but a reality of the thrownness or situation of people with Complex PTSD that can stop them from finding a state of proper rest to appreciate and engage in just Being so that they might enjoy the day. With this portrait, I want to spread awareness that light-hearted happiness and relaxation are not universal and easy options for everyone.

Love the new artwork in my office and living room. It lifts us up everyday, acts as a conversation piece in Zoom calls, and we love the most being able to support artists in our communities as well.
