'When Flies Become Bees' is a self-portrait that speaks to time, growth, and a narrative of resilience. Whenever possible, we try to make honey or lemonade with what we have. The title of this piece references my favourite bathing suit as a child, and in my memory, it was a bathing suit covered in happy bees when in actuality, it was the imagery of flies. Upon rediscovering this image of myself, I found it interesting that I had turned flies into bees in my mind. I found that an appropriate metaphor for how I dealt with struggles I have faced in my life. Thus this narrative of growth and resilience was lovingly pieced together.

'When Flies Become Bees' is a very textural work with physical layers that create shadows. It is a work that changes mood with the changes of natural light. It is a piece that requires particular framing that works with the piece as well as the decor of the space—framing to be discussed.
